What is your pre-workout routine?

We should strive to get the absolute most out of our training sessions. And, while Iโ€™ve talked about having a great program, making sure youโ€™re working within your movement capabilities, and other factors, I have yet to touch on one variable: the pre-training routine. For me this includes three things: fuel, a goal, and getting in the zone. Letโ€™s dive in.

We UNDERESTIMATE the power of simple nutrition habits.

Keto, low carb, carnivore, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, South Beach, Mediterranean, Blood Type, raw food, Whole30, Atkins, DASH... The list is quite literally ENDLESS. When I did a quick Google search of "How many different diets are there" hundreds of options were listed. There was even on article comparing ONE HUNDRED different diets. 100. One hundred … Continue reading We UNDERESTIMATE the power of simple nutrition habits.

Cheat Your Workout, Cheat Yourself.

In the almost six years Iโ€™ve worked in the fitness industry, I feel as if Iโ€™ve seen it all. Exercises done incorrectly, ridiculous diet strategies followed, unnecessary (and expensive!) supplements purchased, and thatโ€™s just to name a few in a list Iโ€™m sure will continue to grow. But through the craziness, thereโ€™s still one negative … Continue reading Cheat Your Workout, Cheat Yourself.

It’s the Climb.

Most times, we start our health and fitness journey with only the end goal in mind. Itโ€™s a shining light at the end of the tunnel, guiding us through and (ideally) giving us the motivation we need to succeed in our efforts. But thatโ€™s not the important part or where we will find success. The … Continue reading It’s the Climb.

Nutrient vs. Calorie Dense: How does it affect me?

Letโ€™s dive into nutrition for this weekโ€™s post. Iโ€™ve talked about before how I believe there arenโ€™t many (if any!) inherently โ€œbadโ€ or โ€œgoodโ€ foods. In moderation, all foods, barring allergy or insensitivity, can be included in a โ€œhealthyโ€ diet. However, that being said, there are food which are more nutrient dense in comparison. If … Continue reading Nutrient vs. Calorie Dense: How does it affect me?

Eating Healthy Isn’t Expensive

Time for another edition of Trainer Tough Love, since itโ€™s been a little while. Both a conversation with a coworker and a recent tweet inspired todayโ€™s post. In both my personal experience and in working with clients, I would say lack of knowledge and cost are the two most common perceived barriers to eating healthier … Continue reading Eating Healthy Isn’t Expensive

Examine the Evidence: Research vs. Anecdotes

Now, by this time, you all know that Iโ€™m a big advocate for research and research-based information. However, I also donโ€™t think that we can completely negate those things that may not be based in research, or at least not based in research yet. The average total time in review for a research paper is … Continue reading Examine the Evidence: Research vs. Anecdotes
